Interdisciplinary collaboration, and creativity are essential ingredients in the development of many research proposals. But, how can you, as a research administrator, actually help your colleagues to work together, and develop more innovative ideas? Fortunately, there is large body of research on this subject, and in this webinar, Andy Burnett, and Donnalyn Roxey, will provide a practical introduction into how you can use some of these key principles in your day-to-day meetings.

Discussion will include:

  • Overview of creativity –a working model and personal preferences
  • Case study for creative collaborations and examples of meetings to infuse with creativity
  • Strategies for implementing creativity tools into meetings and collaborative interactions

Andy Burnett is the founder of Knowinnovation (KI).  He is a workshop engineer, facilitator and creativity expert whose specializes in designing  events for scientists that develop more innovative research proposals.  Andy was involved in the development of the Ideas Lab, or Sandpit, now adopted as a funding mechanism through the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Before his work crafting the first Sandpit for the UK’s EPSRC Andy was a recovering academic with a passion for creativity and technology. Over the years he’s run software companies, taught at various universities, lead workshops for major funding agencies around the world, collaborated on MOOCs, been the co-Principle Investigator on an NSF grant, and consulted for organizations both large and small.  Though a Brit by birth, he currently resides in Buffalo, New York with his wife and two children.

Donnalyn Roxey is a creativity facilitator for Knowinnovation (KI). She received her B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland.  After graduation she began a career in research administration at The Ohio State University.   She has served as a sponsored program officer, negotiated clinical trial contracts and most recently at Ohio State she led the administration of two PhD Graduate Programs and a multi-college, interdisciplinary center for the plant sciences. After ten years in  research development and administration, Donnalyn left the university to pursue what gives her energy; facilitating scientific innovation.

The newest member of the KnowInnovation team, Donnalyn’s passion for creativity, coupled with her long standing involvement in biological research, has led to her focusing her energy on the field of the science of team science.  She is fascinated by how research teams operate, and how they can work even more effectively. She is currently finishing her Masters of Science in Creative Studies and lives in Columbus, Ohio with her two daughters.
