Webinar: Using Administrative Data to Inform Research Development | The Institute for Research on Innovation & Science
Monday, May 11, 2020, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

Presenter: Jason Owen-Smith, Executive Director, Institute for Research on Innovation & Science (IRIS)
Research grants are investments in scientific discovery and training. Grants enable investigators to hire people and purchase the goods and services necessary to pursue research. A consortium of universities anchored on an IRB-approved data repository, the Institute for Research on Innovation & Science (IRIS) utilizes transaction level data on sponsored projects from more than 30 universities to provide a new resource for understanding, explaining, and improving the process and products of academic research.
IRIS data enables analysts to examine scientific outcomes, team structures, collaboration networks and career trajectories for specific groups of researchers. We present research and reporting from IRIS that pertains to understanding faculty research careers, teams, collaborations and outcomes. The goal of the session is to demonstrate an innovative approach to exploring outcomes of various interventions for early career faculty and to discuss the utility such data and analyses have for research development and strategic decision-making on campus.
