Supporting Established Faculty: How Can RD Rrofessionals Help Faculty with Established Careers "jumpstart"
Monday, April 20, 2020, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

Interested in learning how to better deploy your research development (RD) skills across the faculty lifecycle? An April 20 webinar hosted by NORDP will focus on approaches for engaging and supporting established researchers.

Post-tenure faculty or equivalent-rank investigators represent at least half of the faculty population at most higher education institutions and research organizations. Yet, the focus of most RD resources, supports, and literature is on helping pre-tenure faculty jumpstart their careers or assisting teams in the capture of large-scale, collaborative funding. There is less emphasis on the unique RD needs of individual investigators at mid-career and beyond who want to pursue independent research projects—especially those who struggle to maintain research momentum or already have stalled out. RD professionals can help these faculty stay in or return to the research game and compete for extramural funding.

Webinar presenters will explore some universal challenges facing established investigators across institutional contexts and those research barriers specific to certain types of institutions (e.g., private research institutes, small PUIs, large PUIs, and R1s). Presenters will share a range of faculty development mechanisms and RD strategies that can help motivate post-tenure faculty to carve out time for research, find collaborators, obtain seed funding, change research direction, and be more strategic in the pursuit of external support. Participants will gain new insights; learn about practical, proven strategies; and gain access to an online resource library.
