NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing: NIH’s 2023 “culture change”
Tuesday, November 30, 2021, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

A year ago, the NIH released NOT-OD-21-013 the Final Policy for Data Management and Sharing and supplements, giving applicants and institutions over two years to prepare for the Jan. 25, 2023 effective date. NIH’s goal is to move towards a culture change where the ethical sharing of well-managed and reusable data is an integral component of (funded) biomedical and health research. With just 14 months to the effective date, now is a good time to prepare our PIs and RD units.

In this presentation, workshop leader Nina Exner will go over all of the essentials of the new data management and sharing (DMS) policy, and highlight some of the seemingly-small points that could lead many teams to big challenges. The workshop will include discussion about how RD units might use the new NIH DMS policy as an opportunity to encourage researchers to reach beyond minimum compliance, and to develop and use workflows that produce interoperable, reproducible, well-managed data. Nina will offer some ideas about how we can encourage PIs, and especially ECRs, to use this as a chance to build reputations and team expertise in data management and appropriate data sharing.

Bring your questions and your ideas, and let’s talk about research data!
